Pinson Foundation Donates Over 1,600 PSAT, SAT, GMAT and Scholarship Books to Eckerd Foundation to help Kids in Need

December 5, 2011

Oldsmar, Florida. Michael Pinson, founder of the Pinson Foundation announced today that his company Pinson Communications, Inc, a for profit book distribution company, donated 1,680 copies of college entry study guides including SAT, PSAT, and GMAT books, as well as a scholarship information and resource book, all of which are published by Kaplan Publishing. This donation was made through Pinson Communication, Inc.’s charitable arm, the Pinson Foundation, to Eckerd to help low income kids prepare for college entry exams. The tax cost basis of this donation was $21,449.

“We are very happy that we could help support Eckerd with these books where they will be put in the hands of kids in need”, said Michael Pinson.

Headquartered in Clearwater, Eckerd is a national, nonprofit leader in helping children and families succeed. Founded in 1968 by Jack and Ruth Eckerd, the organization helps about 11,000 children and families annually through a full continuum of nearly 30 life-changing behavioral health and child welfare services and programs.

According to Eckerd Chief Development Officer Greg Holeman, the books were distributed to children throughout the Eckerd system of care. “Youth in our programs are achieving outstanding educational gains in reading and math of about 1.7 years despite average lengths of stay that are much less than a year,” stated Holeman. “We deeply appreciate the extra community resources that can help children succeed.”

A person does not reach the full circle of personal success until they consistently give their time and/or money to help those in need in their local community. The economy has been very tough since about 2008, and we thank our Foundation supporters and our customers at Pinson Communications who have made this possible, said Michael Pinson.

The Pinson Foundation is a small nonprofit charitable 501(c)3 organization that was founded in 2006. It is the charitable arm of Pinson Communications, Inc. The Foundation has no employees, pays no rent for office space, and is managed solely by volunteers. The Foundation helps primarily support local charitable causes. However, in January 2010, after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the Pinson Foundation reached outside the United States when it funded and led an eleven person surgical team to the country. Furthermore, the Foundation team returned to Haiti in May 2010 to help re-supply local orphanages and clinics in need. The Pinson Foundation is directly supported by the local community, Pinson Communications, and Michael Pinson.
